Romulans in reboot 'verse

Apologies if this is a stupid question. I've tried figuring it out from the usual sources and failed. From my reading, it appears that Spock Prime attempted to save Romulan worlds from the worst effects of a supernova in 2387 in TOS timelime. After moving through the black hole, he appears in the reboot timelime in 2258. (Nero preceded him there by 25 years.)

So...would I be right to conclude that the supernova has not yet occurred in the reboot, and Romulans are still there in great numbers?

I just finished reading the Big Bang fic Adaptation by ghiri_mai (gen, 44,451 words), and I enjoyed it a lot. It had good worldbuilding and imagined the impact of Vulcan's destruction and Nero on the Romulans and Vulcan rebuilding, and I was hooked even though it was mostly about original characters. (There were some typos still in the text that I noticed, and though it didn't have much of an impact on my enjoyment, as it wasn't a persistent homonym or apostrophe confusion, nitpicky readers might be bothered.)

( The most important thing for the Vulcans right now is the rebuilding of their culture and society, not the building of the new colony’s buildings. They named their new homeworld ‘rebirth,’ and that’s exactly what they want to happen. )

We have some terrific, thoughtful fills so far! I'm really pleased with the results.

1) Reach for Rejection, The Romulans offer the Vulcans aid.

2) Vulcan treasures from off-world get sent to the New Colony

3) Those Left Behind Sarek and Pike offer comfort to one another in the aftermath

And, not precisely what I was expecting to see as a fill, but have a recipe for plomeek soup!

As a part of three_weeks_for_dw, welcome to the first ever Vulcan Reforged kinkmeme.

How This Works

1) Comment anonymously with a prompt featuring either Vulcans or consequences from the destruction of Vulcan in the Star Trek: Reboot Universe. This can be gen or shippy, serious or funny. (Examples: A day in the life on the new Vulcan colony, the Vulcan people become space pirates, lots of Vulcans go into pon farr early since there's a population crisis, an Andorian cook stumbles on something that tastes almost exactly like plomeek soup and makes a fortune!)

2) Read other people's requests, and make them something to fulfill it: icons, fic, vids, art, filk, anonymous post card, whatever you got. Post it as a reply to the prompt which inspired you, anonymously or as yourself, your choice.

Reconstructing Vulcan families

We all know Vulcans have elaborate family clan structures, right? And a lot of the survivors won't have any family left. I've been thinking about that, how they'll probably band together to form clans/families from whatever fragments are left, so a lot of clans won't survive even if there are survivors from the clan, because they'll just get absorbed.

I realized I'm thinking about this too much like a human. Vulcans live twice as long as we do; they probably have a fertile period twice as long, as well. Raise one batch of kids as children of one clan, and once they're out of the house, raise another batch of kids as children of the other. Bingo, both clans preserved, and you have a population explosion as well, which they need.

Have you read From The Terran Coyote to The Klingon K'Ortar: Tricksters of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants? If not, why not? One of the best stories in treknovelfest, this story by ljc is an "excerpt" from a scholarly manuscript that retells and explores Vulcan folk tales. It's a fascinating look, and it's wonderful. And now, melannen has illustrated it! It's really cool!

War Games by Seperis

This immense (100k+ words) novel is a sequel to a Kirk/Spock Pon Farr story which is very good, but which I never rec'd here because, unusually, it doesn't have much to do with Vulcans.

This novel is great because it addresses the reconstruction of Vulcan, Vulcan xenophobia, Federation politics, it makes the Orions into real and interesting players on the Galactic stage, and considers how the Nerada incident has impacted relations with the Romulans. Highly recommended.

Additionally, I have a question. Do Vulcans get drunk off alcohol? Do they have a hugely high tolerance, but some Romulan ale will crack it? Or does alcohol have no effect at all? Do they get drunk but never never show it because their self control is that good? Enquiring minds want to know!

Tonight I was watching a bunch of classic DS9 episodes, including "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges". This community will be happy to know that there are lots of sehlats still in the universe, because Bashir's dossier includes the name of one of the Romulan's pet sehlats.

I don't know what I find more touching, the continued existence of sehlats or that the Romulans took their pets with them at the Time of Sundering.

I posted the below to my journal couple of days ago, and then realized the question was appropriate for this comm:

So, that whole thing where conventional Federation warp drives were tearing apart the fabric of space-time, but, it appears, some solution must have been found for the problem, since someone thought it was a idea to build Voyager, with a cruising speed above Warp 9. (The ~~environmental impact of gasoline~~ distortion of the fabric of space-time by conventional warp technologies was a big part of the plot of the finale of TNG.)

( movie spoilers. OMG, people, go bittorrent the movie so I can stop cutting! )

Then today I was reading anne_higgins' No-Win Scenario which is not particularly germane to this comm, but which mentions that the low-level species wide telepathy was putting the Vulcans into a tail-spin, and I wondered if a large number of people from a different telepathic species would be helpful or harmful.

What do y'all think of either or both ponderances?

Hello. My name is Sunfell, and there is a Vulcan Elder whispering in my ear.

Since I saw that movie, I've had a gaggle of AU (alternate universe) Vulcans move into my head, all wanting to tell me their stories.

It is very difficult to resist persistent Vulcans- especially when they want to tell you all about something right now. They're so damn... persuasive. So, not knowing about this comm until a friend on LJ pointed it out, I wrote a short prologue to a larger tapestry that these people are narrating to me. It's called "Clementine"- which, apparently is very close to a Vulcan word meaning 'ended | lost | gone forever'.

I haven't written fanfic in nearly 20 years. Doggone Vulcans did it to me again!
